Blackberry Lemonade

Ah. The Dog days of Summer. Here in Alabama it is hot and Humid. A lot of people are still going strong on the grill and have parties. I have a Great Drink Recipe to cool you and the kids down on those hot days. This Drink is cool, Refreshing and It’s different spin on a classic Lemonade.

First of let’s get started on the Blackberry Puree. It is very simple to make. All you need is a blender.

(1.) In a Blender add 2 cups of  Blackberries. If you have frozen it is alright. Just let them thaw before putting them into the blender. Add in 3 cups of sugar and 3 cups of Water. Place the top on the blender and Blend on low until completely smooth. Over a bowl place a strainer and pour the Blackberry Puree through the strainer into the bowl. This takes a minute or two. When all of the Mixture is in the bowl remove the strainer and pour the Liquid in to a Large Picture. I use a 4 Gallon Pitcher.

Alright now we can make the Lemonade.

(2.) To the pitcher add in 4 c. Lemon Juice and 8 c. of water. Stir to Combine. At this point you can adjust the sweetness. You can add more sugar if you want. Be careful not to add to much or you will have sweet lemon flavored water and not Lemonade.

Now, If you do not like Blackberries you can certainly add another fruit such as strawberries, Cherries, raspberries or even peaches. I often add peach puree to make Peach Lemonade which is also Great. I have also made an Apple Lemonade which the Apple puree turned brown. I do not recommend this. Use Apple juice instead and just remove two cups of water from the mixture.  This makes a subtle apple flavor in the background and does not overpower the lemon flavor.

(3.) When you have all of the mixture combined then you can add a few cups of Ice to chill the mixture or you can serve over Ice. Your choice.

Hope you enjoy this refreshing Lemonade.
